Inside the Desert Botanical Complete Baby Shower Pack

There is a framed print sitting on a wicker placemat. On it, in script, are the words: Your Fingerprints, Help our cactus bloom. Beneath that, in quieter type: Every mark is someone who loves this baby already.

That’s the Desert Botanical fingerprint cactus station. And it’s where I want to start, because it says something about what the Complete Pack is actually for.

It isn’t a bundle of games. It isn’t a checklist of activities. It’s a way of giving the day a shape – so that the host isn’t improvising, the guests aren’t standing about, and the mum-to-be comes away with things she’ll actually want to keep.

The fingerprint cactus is a good example of how that works. Guests press their finger onto an ink pad, press their print onto one of the cactus spines, and write their name beside it. The result is a piece of artwork, genuinely, that records, in the most literal way possible, everyone who was in the room. It goes in a frame. It goes on a wall. It doesn’t go in a drawer.

That principle runs through the whole Complete Pack.

What’s inside

The Complete Pack contains everything in the Essential Pack – the welcome sign, invitations, cupcake toppers, favour gift tags, food labels, wishes for baby, advice for mum, advice for dad, name suggestions, baby predictions, and thank you cards — and then it adds two things the Essential doesn’t have: games and activity stations.

The games are the kind that actually get played. Baby shower bingo, a nursery rhyme quiz, baby animal match, who knows mum best – each one is illustrated in the same warm desert watercolour style as the rest of the pack, so they look considered rather than like an afterthought. There are twelve illustrated bingo tiles featuring desert tortoises, hummingbirds, fennec foxes and jackrabbits. You print them, cut them, and shuffle them. That’s it.

The activity stations are where the pack earns its keep.

Each station comes with a host instruction page and a cut-out guest sign, so guests know exactly what they’re being invited to do. Alongside the fingerprint cactus, there’s a parenting tip jar – guests write a piece of wisdom, fold it up, and drop it in. A letter to write to the baby, for anyone who wants to put something into words. A onesie to decorate. Blocks to paint. A nappy to write on (the write on a nappy game is, without exception, the one that gets everyone talking).

There’s also an address station – a small and quietly useful addition that means the mum-to-be has all her thank you card envelopes addressed by the end of the afternoon, without having to ask for anyone’s address later.

The Desert Botanical register

The illustration style throughout is Victorian natural history watercolour – the kind you’d find in a field guide from another century, warm and precise and slightly faded at the edges. The palette runs to sandy ochres, terracottas, sage greens and dusty pinks. The creatures – jackrabbits, fennec foxes, desert tortoises, sleeping quail, burrowing owls — are shown in quiet poses. Resting. Curled. Still.

It’s a deliberate choice. Desert botanical as a baby shower theme is sometimes done in bold, graphic brights. This isn’t that. This is what the desert looks like in the early morning, before the heat arrives, when everything is still and soft and golden.
